Operation Search and Rescue

Happy Halloween!!! πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Happy Monday! Time is flying and we are already at the end of another transfer! We had our transfer call on Saturday and found out Sister Doxey is leaving :/ shes headed for Macclenney for her last transfer and I'm going to miss her tons. My new companion's name is Sister Hoffman and we will serve together as the Sister Training Leaders for the Kingsland Zone! President opened up 3 new sisters areas in Kingsland so we have more sisters to work with and I am so excited!!! It's going to be a fun transfer!

Companions that tandem together don't always stay together(transfers://) but it's still pretty fun

Last week we drove to Fernadina Beach to have a district p-day. A member in the ward there has a house right on the water and they let us come over and fish in their backyard! The weather is finally cooling down and it was a little overcast and perfect out. I'd never really fished before but I tried it out. I caught a crab for like 2 seconds but that's about it for me! We saw dolphins and a cute sea turtle and the Elders caught some baby sharks! It was lots of fun

Fishing with the District last week 🐟

We did a lot of finding this week and met some interesting people. We met a man named Gary and his grandson Kyle. They let us in and we shared a video with them about the Book of Mormon. As soon as the video was over Kyle showed us his phone and he had pulled up Mormon.org and was ordering a free copy. It was awesome haha! We told him we could just bring one next time if he wanted and so we are going to go back and see them this week! We are still working with Malaekai and Mavryk and they are so excited to be baptized! We taught them a few times this week and they are adorable and hilarious. We played a mini football game with them after a lesson and Sister Doxey scored 2 touchdowns wahoo! Haha!

Kingsland District

Friday night the branch went all out for their annual fall festival and it was so fun! We went early to help set up and to decorate the room we were in charge of. They had different games in each room and the kids would walk around and do different activities and get treats. They had the whole thing inside and it turned out great! The whole building was decorated which took a lot of work but the kids all loved it. We also had a chili cook off and just sat and visited with all the branch members. We had a lot of people come and even some investigators so that was exciting!!

Our investigator David has this outside his house and keeps it stocked with drinks and snacks. Southern hospitality.

I was able to give a talk this week in sacrament meeting about the importance of daily scripture study. I loved being able to study that topic more and it's something I've really seen the importance of as a missionary. There was a quote that I really liked that I wanted to share with y'all from President Monson

One morning it was so cold we actually turned the heat on....it was crazy. We bundled up and made hot chocolate it was a strange feeling haha

“Once obtained, a testimony needs to be kept vital and alive through continued obedience to the commandments of God and through daily prayer and scripture study. As Nephi emphasized, to gain eternal life we must 'press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end'”

I know the Book of Mormon is true because it changes my life every time I read it. I love being a missionary and being able to share this wonderful book with people everyday!!

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

Branch Fall Festival! The Gillands had the scariest costume for sure

More puppies! We met this little guy tracting and he followed us around the whole time then came back to the car and hopped right up as soon as I opened the door. It broke my heart a little bit to have to leave him behind </3

Low Country Boil and FB Miracles

This week was hectic but still so fun. We drove all around Georgia and went to lots of meetings, had a power exchange with some sisters, and we set a baptismal date!! It's been great.

MY FIRST LOW COUNTRY BOIL!!! It was so good. They cook all the food in a huge pot and traditionally just dump it out on a table and you go to town. We ate it inside though so they put it on cookie sheets. It had potatoes, carrots, corn, shrimp, sausage, crab legs and some other veggies. Soooooo gooooooooood

Tuesday we had interviews with our Mission President! It was so nice to get to visit with him a bit and get some life advice. President Lee is seriously the best!! We had district meeting as soon as interviews were over then we headed out and followed President and the Assistants over to Brunswick for their interviews and district meeting. We gave a training on using the new planning method then we had to hurry because we had to get on the road so we could drive up to Waycross. We made it there just as their district meeting was starting and we gave another training about being creative with our technology while staying in the bounds the Lord has established for us. It was a draining day haha but there was a chick fil a in Waycross so it was all worth it :)

Halloween party with the Kingsland Zone last Monday

Tuesday night we made it back to Hilliard just in time to have a lesson with a part member family we have been trying to work with. We taught the whole family and we were able to set some really solid expectations with them and they committed to come to the branch fall festival next weekend! We also had a lesson with two boys named Maveryk and Malekai. They've grown up in the church but never got baptized. We have been teaching them and they are both set to be baptized the beginning of November!! They are super adorable and I love teaching little kids! They're my people

Desperately needing a nap after 3 district meetings, 2 trainings, and lots of country driving in GA

We had an amazing miracle finding this man named John. We knocked on his door and he told us he had just moved to Hilliard about a month ago. He had been meeting with missionaries before he moved but had lost contact with them and didn't know how to find missionaries here. He was so excited to see us and we were able to go back and teach him. He is so prepared to hear the Gospel and meeting him was such a tender mercy.

When you drive 30 miles to see a less active but they forget about your appointment :/ at least she had comfy chairs on her porch

One last miracle...during church yesterday I had an investigator from a previous area pop into my mind and I felt prompted to send them a message on Facebook. I was able to have a group chat with him and one of my previous companions Sister Fotheringham and we are going to have an online lesson with him this week!! It's so amazing to me how much Facebook and technology have enhanced the work. We can reach so many more people and I love seeing God's hand in all of it. I LOVE being a missionary!

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

p.s We have the transfer call on Saturday and we will find out if Sister Doxey and I will get another 6 weeks together! More updates on that next week :)

Homemade ice cream at my fav spot in Callahan

I'd pulled off the road so we could look at our map and this dog came right up to our car and sat down waiting for me to pet it<33 in the words of elder davis "wassup dogg"

Exchanges X3

Exchange with Sister Gilbert

Happy Monday! We had another great week here in Callahan! We went on what felt like a million exchanges so I'm sorry if that's all I talk about haha!

Tuesday we had exchanges with the Kingsland sisters and I was able to spend the day with Sister Gilbert! We came out in the same group so it was fun to catch up a bit. We helped a member with some family history stuff then we were busy with lessons all night. We were able to teach a mom and her daughter that just got baptized last week so that was super fun! We met back up with the other sisters the next day and grabbed lunch in Callahan together.

Thursday we had another exchange with the MacClenny sisters! I went to MacClenney for the night with Sister Esquerra! We are both from NM so that was fun. We just connected over random New Mexico things and it was great. When people would ask us where we were from it would really throw them off when we both said NM since like no one is ever from there haha! We were able to go visit some ladies in their ward that are staying in a nursing home and we sang a few songs for them! We woke up early the next morning and drove down to Lake Butler for the Lake City zones interviews. We gave trainings in both of the districts and talked a lot about technology and the new planning steps. It was stressful but good haha!

Exchange with Sister Esquerra

After we finished interviews we ended our exchange with the Macclenny sisters and started another exchange with the Cannon Creek sisters and I went back to Callahan with Sister Meyers. Fun fact about Sister Meyers is that she's from Provo and grew up in the same ward as my cousins. It was a neat home connection. It was about an hour drive back and we had to head straight to dinner with a member. We went out and worked after that and tried some people in an apartment complex in Hilliard. Sister Meyers had the goal to talk with everyone so we talked with people outside in the parking lot and knocked a few doors. We met a ton of kooks but we also had an awesome miracle! We met a man named John that used to meet with the Elders in a different area but he just recently moved to Hilliard and really wants to come to church and start meeting with missionaries again! It was awesome!

Exchange with Sister Meyers

Saturday morning we headed out to meet up with the other sisters so we could switch back. On the way down we got caught in some crazy traffic from a stopped train and it ended up taking wayyy longer to meet the sisters than we planned. This created a small dilema because we were planning on being back in Callahan by 2 so we could FaceTime in for a baptism. We weren't going to make it in time so we found a parking lot and used the hotspot on our phone to watch the baptism! I was able to FaceTime in and see my investigator Troy from Gainesville at his baptism and it was so great! We were working with Troy the whole time I was in Gainesville and it was so cool to see how much his faith has grown in the last few months. He shared a really simple powerful testimony at the end that he knows this was the right choice. I'm sad I couldn't be there in person but so thankful for technology. It was the highlight of my week!!

Troy's Baptism

We were also able to find a lot of new investigators this week which was super exciting! We have really been working on building a solid teaching pool and it's been kind of a slow process but we are getting there. The Lord is blessing us in Callahan!!! I love being a missionary! Thanks for all the love, support, and still reading my emails this late in the game.

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

-Weekly Moss Moment-
This week for district meeting we decided to have a breakfast themed potluck. We were in charge of bringing the pancake mix and syrup. We had planned to just make all the food at the church since It was quick and easy. We realized after getting there that there wasn't a single pan in the kitchen. We ended up cooking eggs and hasbrowns in a big pot but we had no idea how we were going to cook the pancakes! One of the sisters came up with the idea to cook them in muffin tins in the oven so we tried that and they actually turned out pretty good! We will remember to bring better supplies for next week's potluck haha!

Don't Fear the (Carolina) Reaper!

Happy Monday! This are was super busy so lots to report on today! We have 2 exchanges and zone conference and lots of awesome lessons so it been great! I'm starting to get adjusted here in Callahan and it's been fun :)

Floridians are ready for HalloweenπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Last Monday night we had a miracle!! All of our plans for the night had fallen through so we decided to go out and try some neighborhoods around our house. We met this awesome family, Lisa Ella and timothy, and we were able to teach all of them and connect with them on Facebook! They were really nice and open to listen to our message and we will be seeing them again this week! We were also able to have our first lesson over Facebook messenger with our investigator Bryan! We had been texting him and he wasn’t replying but we tried messaging him on Facebook and he actually replied! We taught him about the Book of Mormon and baptism and it was a spirit filled lesson even though We weren't together face to face.  We have had a lot of success using Facebook to stay in contact with the people we are teaching and it's exciting to see how we can use this technology to move the work along:)

Sunday selfies

Wednesday I went on an exchange with Sister Martin and I was able to spend the day with her in Price Creek. We were able to teach some lessons and then went to mutual with one of the girls they are teaching! It was super fun. We woke up the next morning and played volleyball with their district for exercise then headed out to Jacksonville for zone conference! We had more trainings on using Facebook and our smartphones to fulfill our purpose. After we finished the meeting I went with Sister Redford to Starke for an exchange. This is her first transfer and she is amazing. She is hard working and already so confident with the work it was cool to see! It was kind of hectic being out of my area for 3 days but it was so fun being with other sisters and working with them and learning from them

Exchange in Starke with Sister Redford
The work is going great here in Callahan! We heard a rumor this week that they are going to open a Wal-Mart here. I would honestly cry tears of joy if that happened. We are working really hard though to find people that are ready to hear our message. I know they're out there we just have to keep working hard and the Lord will provide! I love being a missionary so much!!!

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

Before the Reaper. Elder Gilland and I were smiling bc we didn't know what was coming hahaha
-Weekly Moss Moment-
The hot pepper saga continues. This week when we went to the Gilland's for dinner they told us that they had a Carolina Reaper for us to try. It's apparently one of the hottest peppers ever and so Elder Gilland wanted to see how it compared to the hot sauce he had us try last week. After we finished dinner we split it in to 4 pieces and were prepare with a bowl to spit it out in and plenty of milk just in case. The Goal was the chew in for 5 seconds and then see who could go the longest without drinking any milk. I'd had it in my mouth for about .2 seconds before I felt the heat and I honestly thought I was going to die. It hurt so bad. I was trying to hold out and not drink any milk so I could beat the elders but I was dying. We were all crying, sweating, and trying not to puke. I made it about 2 minutes (which felt like an eternity) before I tapped out and grabbed the milk. It was horrible and 10/10 would not recommend. The milk didn’t even really help so we all were just dying for about 30 minutes. It ended up being a tie between Elder Simkins and Elder Gilland but it was so not worth it haha! Elder Gilland got a kick out of it though so I'm sure there will be more spicy torture next week

Glad Georgia's on Your Mind

Folkston, GA

Hello! Happy Monday y'all!! This week has been super busy and lots of fun! I'm starting to get settled into my new area so that's been good.

found a friend in Folkston

On wednesday we had MLC (mission leadership conference) in Jacksonville. All the Sister Training Leaders, Zone Leaders, and District Leaders came together to be trained by President Lee on how to use the new technology we've received. We talked a lot about using Facebook for missionary work and received further guidelines and clarification on how to use it. We also set up our new smart phones and have been using them for the past few days. It is so weird having a smart phone after over a year of using an old brick phone haha! It's been awesome to see how much this technology has blessed our work in just the last week and I'm super excited for the rest of the mission to get their new phones and to be able to use Facebook after Zone Conference this upcoming week!

Mission Leaders and our smart phones

After MLC we had an exchange with the JAX East STLs and I was able to go to Hendricks with Sister Stepherson! We lived in the same apartment complex back when I was serving in Arlington so it was fun to get to see her again and catch up a bit! It was also so nice to be back in Jacksonville for the day! I miss it so much!! We taught a Book of Mormon class that night then taught their investigator David! It was super fun :)

When you are in Georgia but...?πŸ‘πŸ’°πŸ˜’

We were able to spend some time working in Georgia this week which was super exciting for me haha! Leaving the state of Florida for the first time on my mission was a strange feeling but I seriously love Georgia so much!! We went tracting and tried a few former investigators in this tiny town called Folkston. The people are super sweet and have thick southern accents and it was great. Our Branch President also lives in Folkston and we went there Sunday night to have dinner with them!

Life is peachy in Georgia!!

The highlight of my week was getting to watch General Conference! I love conference because I always hear exactly what I need and I am able to receive promptings from the spirit for all the different questions I have or things I might be struggling with. It made my heart sad that we didn't get to hear from President Monson :/ but I know all the speakers were inspired and taught us what Heavenly Father wanted! All the talks were so great and I can't wait to go back and read and study them more. It was super neat to hear all the talks about service and the personal shout out to Florida and the helping hands cleanup after Hurricane Irma! I'm so greatful I was able to participate in that!! One of my favorite talks was from Elder Holland and I wanted to share a quote from it with y'all. He said

"I am thankful that God is merciful and a peacemaker, because I need mercy, and the world needs peace."

I am so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father that created a perfect plan so that I can be forgiven when I mess up or fall short (which happens a ton). I know that through the atonement of Jesus Christ we can be cleansed from all our sins so that we can live with God and our families for eternity. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His Divine Son!

I love y'all! Have a blessed week!!<3

NEW ADDRESS:

Elder Gilland sent me home with some "Da Bomb" in case I ever needed it lol

-Weekly Moss Moment-
So we have a senior missionary couple in our ward, the Gillands, and they take really good care of us. They usually have us over for dinner every Sunday night and this week Sister Gilland offered to feed us lunch in between conference sessions on Saturday. When we got there Elder Gilland pulled out these hot sauce bottles he ordered online and tried to convince us and the elders to try some. One wasn't too hot and we didn't have much problem with it. The other was called "Da Bomb" and I was pretty hesitant. We all barely dipped a toothpick into the sauce and then put it in our mouth. HOLY COW THAT STUFF WAS HOT! The elders were sweating and yelling and I was downing cantaloupe as fast as I could in an effort to cool off my mouth. Sister Doxey was the only smart one who didn't try it haha! Elder Gilland really got a kick out of it though and I wouldn't be surprised if he had more spicy stuff for us to try next time we go over haha!

Callahan and BIG NEWS!!

Gainesville district! Love/miss these humans <3

Hi everyone!! Hope all is well with y'all! This week has been crazy but good. I made it to my new area with my new companion Sister Doxey. She's from Nampa Idaho and is sweet as can be! Callahan is teeny tiny(population of like 1,000) but we cover lots of other tiny towns too and even some parts of Georgia so that's exciting!! The area was opened 2 transfers ago so it's still really new! We have been working really hard to build up our teaching pool and it's been going great so far!

Sister Doxey!!

We got to do service on Saturday for this really neat place called Empowerment Ranch. They take in rescue animals and help with whatever treatments they need. We mostly did hurricane cleanup and helped with debris but we got to see some of the animals too! They had these two adorable goats named Mushu and Mulan that followed us around the whole time and just wanted attention. It was super funny! They also have like 13 horses and we got to meet all of them and pet them which was a bit scary for me but still fun! When we go back next week we are go in to help them groom the horses so that'll be interesting!

Callahan selfie

We also were able to watch the Women's conference with our branch and it was great! We had a dinner before where we had sandwiches and ice cream then we all watched together at the church building! All the ladies in the branch are super sweet and southern and it was fun getting to visit with them for a bit. I really enjoyed watching women's conference! I felt like it was exactly the boost I needed and made me even more excited for next week when we get to listen to the rest of General Conference!!

Okay so the most exciting part of my week...on Friday night we had a mission wide conference call where President Lee announced we would be getting FACEBOOK! We will be using it to proselyte online which I am super excited about! We will be trained more in our Mission Leadership meeting this upcoming week so we will get more details and trainings on how to use it properly. So if you see me online I promise I'm not breaking any rules haha! Second big announcement is this upcoming week we will be getting SMARTPHONES! Yeah we are super pumped about this. I've had a brick slidey phone my whole mission that can't even get emojis so this is a huge step up haha!  Each companionship will have a Samsung galaxy that we will be able to use for our missionary work. We are 1 of 12 missions in the world piloting this new technology so it'll be interesting to see how it all comes together. I'm thankful I get to be a missionary at this time when the Lord is hastening His work! It's an exciting time :)

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33
