St. Augustine Pt. 3

Sister Morrow ft. a cool house (don't worry no one lived there)

Hello everyone!!

We have transfers this week and sadly I will be saying goodbye to my amazing trainer Sister F :((She is headed to JAX West to be a Sister Training Leader (in charge of all the sister missionaries in that zone) I know she's going to be amazing but I wish I could keep her one more transfer ha-ha! My new companion’s name is Sister Sheffield and she should be getting here Wednesday so I'm super excited about that! Overall I have mixed feelings about transfers. ha-ha

This week was a crazy one! With meetings and thanksgiving and service it all just seemed to fly by!

On Wednesday we went over to do some service for Sister Edwards! She lives on a big lot out in the woods and the hurricane hit her pretty hard. Helping hands had already come and cut up all the big trees that had fallen, so now it's mostly just cosmetic stuff that needs to be done. She took us out to where she has this big green house that was ruined in the storm. There were hundreds of plant pots scattered all over the place and to start she asked us to gather all the pots and stack them on the shelves. It seemed easy enough so Sister F got started (I've been feeling super sick all week so I let her handle this one lol). We were about half way when she screamed and threw a pot. I asked her what her deal was and she told me that she saw a huge spider that she was pretty sure was a brown recluse. We examined the particular pot and sure enough it was a brown recluse about the size of my hand. We freaked out and sister f grabbed the pot with a pitchfork and threw it into the woods. We continued for a bit but decided to quit after we saw the fourth brown recluse in the pile of pots...YIKES!! It was so scary and at one point Sister F was holding a pot and there was one on the side. We had some spider PTSD for a few days. When we told Sister Edwards we weren't able to finish because of the swarm of spiders she just laughed and said, "ladies welcome to the south." It was the worst. hahaha

The pots and the pitchfork

Thursday was Thanksgiving and it was the best day of my mission so far. This is a long story so brace your selves. Normally in our mission elders and sisters aren't allowed to eat at the same house, but for Thanksgiving we were allowed to so we made a deal with the elders that if anyone invited us over we would just ask if the other set could come too. It worked out perfectly and we had 4 families lined up to feed us that day. We started out having Breakfast with the Ellis family, which was super fun! After breakfast we went around with our whole district and did Thanksgiving caroling (elders idea) where we knocked on less active members doors, gave them cookies, and sang a hymn about being thankful. It was a little odd but still fun. It seemed to really brighten their day, which was awesome :) After that we headed to lunch with the Manucy family! We had a full feast that was super yummy! Sister F and I went in with a game plan. Small samples of everything and no seconds so we could eat all day long and not get sick. The elders didn't have a game plan and ate elder sized portions and got seconds lol yikes. After that we headed over to Sister Willoughby’s house. We played a mini football game in our missionary clothes, which was interesting ha-ha and then ate pie. At this point I was totally hitting the wall and ready to sleep for a solid 48 hours but we still had one more dinner to go to. We went to a family named the Lees and they are AWESOME! Their house was the highlight of the whole night. First thing when we get there Sister Lee took us outside to show us around and one of their little yappy dogs came and bit my leg. Like really hard. I was trying to play it off because they felt really bad but I was dying inside ha-ha. I had to sneak away a few times during dinner to clean off the blood so they wouldn't notice. And when we got home we called the mission nurse and she said we had to ask the Lees if their dog had all it's shots. I was super worried it would hurt their feelings or something so I made the elders do it ha-ha. I'm okay now though it's just a little flesh wound. After that fiasco we sat down to eat and the Lees said "we already ate so just the four of you will be eating" all 4 missionaries just looked at each other knowing we were so full and praying for the strength to eat another thanksgiving dinner. They dished up our plates and gave us heaping servings. They deep fried a turkey and smoked a ham and each missionary ended up with about a pound of each. It turned into a competition between Sister F and the elders to see who could finish first. (I was already a lost cause lol) After lots of deep breaths and serious concentration we all finished our plates and laid our heads down on the table to hibernate for a few years. The Lees weren't done with us though and they gave us a HUGE piece of pineapple upside down cake. About two bites into the cake Elder Ward stopped eating. Put his napkin up to his mouth...and calmly walked to the bathroom and threw up. Poor kid hahaha they shouldn't have gotten seconds at the Manucy’s. It didn't help that Brother Lee was cracking jokes about it the whole time. We were all crying we were laughing so hard. Not at him but with him. We understood his pain. A few minutes later he called out "I'm okay!! No really I feel great!" then he came out and finished eating his cake like a champ.

When you're eating 4 thanksgiving meals you have to wear a dress that hides your food baby. We asked the Elders if they had food baby suits and Elder McConkie about spit out his turkey

This email is getting super long so I'll wrap it up with one amazing gator story. Friday the Elders sent us a referral for a guy they had met downtown. They said he was super interested and that we could go see him Saturday at 4. He lived right next to one of our recent converts so it was perfect. We went over to meet him and he told us his name was Marlin! He said he was expecting the Elders again and didn't know they would be sending over the "big guns" hahaha. We thought that was pretty funny. We taught him the restoration and it was so powerful!! He said meeting the Elders was a sign to him that God wants him to change his current path in life. He wants us to come back and teach his whole family! Before we left he said "God reaches out to us through other people, and I know you are God’s people and that he sent you to me so I'm taking this all very seriously." SO AWESOME!

We went at 6am this morning to play Frisbee as a district! We also had scooters and roller skates that we took to the skate park hahaha it was super fun! We asked the elders why they were making those faces and they said, "These are our skate park faces. You have to be serious at the skate park."

God is so good and I'm so excited to work with the amazing people in St. Augustine for another transfer!!! I know we will continue to see so many miracles! I love being a missionary!

I love y'all!! Have a blessed week <3

xoxo

My emotional support kitty. Sister f and I tried to sneak it home in our bags but the member noticed :/

-Weekly Moss Moment

Friday we went to the bank to take in all the change Sister F has been collecting over her mission. She had a huge bag that was heavy and she didn't want to take it with her so we went to exchange it for cash. We figured they would use some counting machine or something but they gave us rolls and told us to go put the coins in them and come back. It was the end of a long day and we weren't thinking so we just put the coins in not realizing you were supposed to count them first to make sure the amounts lined up with what it said in the roll. The lady behind the counter was like "none of these are even...did y'all even count them?" Sister F and I just looked at each other and were like uhhhh so we had to go back and redo it. Super embarrassing...I blame it on the dang moss!!!

President’s Favorite district. Sadly we are saying goodbye to Sister Brian, Sister F, and our STL Sister Gibb :'( I'll miss them a lot.
