Mac Town

#LightTheWorld
Well transfer call was this past Saturday and I found out that I'm being transferred to MacClenny! It's a small country town kind of like Callahan but it has a Wal-Mart so that is very exciting! I'm sad to leave Callahan and all the branch members and our investigators but I know that MacClenny is where I'm supposed to be!

Making a gingerbread house with our friend Madi:))

We had a busy last few days which made the week go by super fast!

We had a super awesome miracle on Tuesday. We'd had District Meeting that morning and had stayed after so Sister Hoffman could practice the piano for a special musical number she was doing. While we were there we heard the church phone ringing out in the hallway! We went and answered it and it was a lady named Jennifer who was a member and had just moved to Hilliard and needed some help getting settled. We gave our Branch President a call and he was able to get in contact with her and get everything worked out. On Wednesday night we were at the church again for a meeting and we saw Jennifer there! She was meeting with President Hand and so we were able to visit with her a bit. She had her husband with her who isn't a member and he said that he is interested in coming to church and being baptized!! They were at church on Sunday and it was just such a cool experience!

We borrowed a tv from the assistants for the parade and they needed it back but we weren't going to be home so they just broke into our apartment to get it. They left us cookies though so it's all good haha

Thursday we had our mission Christmas party down in Jacksonville! It was fun to go and see all of my friends that are serving in other parts of the mission! Each zone made a Christmas skit, then we ate lunch and had a Christmas Devotional. The missionaries from our branch sang and there were other songs and talks. It was all really good and got me super excited for Christmas!! We also had our branch Christmas party and put up all of our decorations in our house so it was a very festive week 😊

Zone P-day last week!

Yesterday in church a member gave a talk about God's love that I really enjoyed. She talked about the significance of the star that appeared as a sign of Christ's birth. She said that if God was able to place that star precisely in the right place thousands of years beforehand so that at the exact moment it was supposed to it would shine over Bethlehem then He can do the same for us. He places us in situations and with people that will help us even if at the time we don't understand. There are no coincidences in this life and if we look we can see the Lord's hand even in the minor details. I am so thankful for my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. I know they love all of us more than we can even comprehend!

I love y'all! Have blessed week <33

LIGHT THE WORLD

This week was busy and crazy and it felt like we weren't in our area at all but it was still so fun!! I can't believe it's already December! It was pretty hot this week though which makes me still feel like it's August or something. It's crazy how the time is flying!

We found this cute puppy while working on the float and it was the best part of the day

We had a special 2 day MLC this week in Jacksonville and it was fantastic. We had training from Brother Donaldson and Brother Glazier from the missionary department. They came a fews weeks ago but it was a smaller group this time so we had more discussions, role plays, and different activities to help us understand the principles they were trying to teach us. Since we are one of the 12 test missions they are going to be working very closely with us to see what we can do to be more affective. We spent all day Wednesday in the meeting and then that night we went out on exchanges with the sisters in Jacksonville. I got to see my trainee Sister Goeller and it was so fun!! The objective of the exchange was to observe the investigators. We weren't supposed to talk much or teach the lesson but really just focus on how the investigator was feeling. It was a very interesting and eye opening experience. We went back the next day and discussed what we saw and then received more training. The overall theme was listening. We have to be aware of the investigator and listen to their needs and then teach them. We are getting away from teaching the lessons in a set order and just teaching what would be most helpful for them that day. We talked about a lot of other things too and it just made me so excited to go out and work!!

We had a really awesome experience with a part member family this week where we were able to apply what we learned  We stopped by and knocked on the door and met the nonmember wife Tracy. She said it was a bad time and we asked if we could come back in a few days. She agreed and when we came for the return appointment she came outside and visited with us. She told us her experience in the past with missionaries and her religious feelings. We also got to know her family background and learned a lot about her. All this information was very helpful for teaching her and it helped her connect and open up. Yesterday at church her active mother in law came up to us and told us how much she appreciated us stopping by and seeing Tracy. She said she rarely if ever actually talks to the missionaries and that Tracy really liked us and was willing to have us come back and see her more!! It was really exciting!

Friday was the first day of December and the kick off for the Light the World Christmas campaign!! Saturday was the Callahan Christmas parade and and we were able to work with the members of the branch to enter a Light the World float! We helped them decorate it and all the missionaries in our district came and helped! We were able to hand out water bottles with cards tied tie them for Day 2 which was based off the scripture in Matthew 25 that says "I was thirsty and ye gave me drink" it was a hot day in Florida and everyone appreciated the water. We handed out hundreds of cards and it was just an amazing missionary opportunity! I am so excited to serve and help light the world leading up to Christmas!! It has really helped me focus on the Savior and remember the reason for the season! If any of y'all have question or want to participate you can check out mormon.org :)

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

Callahan Christmas parade!!! 🎄🎁❤

-Weekly Moss Moment-
One night we were doing some Facebook work. We were both on our tablets messaging back and forth teaching lessons with several people over messenger. When we are online our thumbs are flying and it can be hard to keep the different conversations separate. We were teaching 3 people on messenger and texting an investigstor all at the same time. I had sent one text then I passed the phone of to Sister Hoffman to reply. She read her response out to me and I approved it but I was kind of distracted. Our investigstor responded and she passed the phone back to me for the next response. I typed a question and read it out loud,  Sister Hoffman approved and right after hitting send she said "WAIT NO!" but it was too late. I asked our investigator the exact same question that she just had but hadn't realized haha it was kind of awkward but I think we learned our lesson...don't let the moss distract you when you are doing online lessons!

Malekai and Maveryk!!

Malekai and Maveryk at their baptism!!!

This week was great! We had lots of meetings, some solid lessons, ate lots of turkey, and 2 of our investigators got baptized!!

Wednesday we had interviews with President Lee! We were able to give a training on the importance of having a testimony of the Book of Mormon! It went really well and I really enjoyed studying the topic more and hearing other missionaries personal experience with the Book of Mormon. After the district meeting was over we rode with Presidents and the Assistants to Brunswick for their interviews/district meeting. After that we rode over to Waycross for their interviews/district meetings. We gave a training there on planning! It's fun to get to see the other missionaries in the zone since we are all spread out. It was a long day of meetings and lots of driving and we ended up getting back to Callahan a little after 9pm. We were exhausted!

Thanksgiving with Sister Hoffman ❤❤

Thursday was Thanksgiving and it was great!!! We spent the morning baking cookies then we went and had lunch with the Steeles. The Elders, the Gillands, and 2 other families from the branch came and we all visited and ate and played some games. I had the best yams of my life and I was very content. I love thanksgiving!! After we finished eating we took our cookies we baked and visited less active members from the branch. We also visited some elderly members and people that spent the holiday alone. We gave them cookies and sang Christmas carols for them! It was really fun! Friday we went back to the Steeles house and helped them decorate for Christmas! We set up their tree and other decorations and it was so fun! Christmas time is the best!! We got our tiny tree set up at our house and will be decorating it soon! Everyone say a quick prayer that I stay one more transfer so I can be here for Christmas!

We found a little kitten when we were out caroling and I wanted to bring it home so bad

Malekai and Maveryk also got baptized this week!! They are a part member family that we have been working with for the last transfer and they are the funniest kids ever! Every time we taught them they just absorbed everything and were so ready to get baptized! Maveryk got to be baptized on his bday too so that made it extra exciting! When we were taking pictures Maveryk jumped up and said "lets go get baptized!!!!" It was adorable haha! I love being a missionary and being able to work with so many people and see how the gospel blesses their life!

I am so thankful for all of y'all! I love being a missionary! Thanks for the continued support!

Give your mom a hug and feed the missionaries in your ward.
I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

The Steeles fancy purple Christmas tree

-Weekly Moss Moment-
Thursday at Thanksgiving we were playing some games while we were waiting for dinner to finish. They had this weird marble game and connect 4. Elder Davis and I were playing connect 4 and he ended up beating me. I tried to pull on the game to get all the pieces out to reset it but I accidentally pulled on it too hard and the whole thing went flying and the little game pieces went every where. It was super embarrassing and we had to get it all cleaned up...dang moss

Saturday we were in Waycross all day so we went out to eat with the sisters! We went to a place called the Mexican trailer and it was surprisingly good lol

This second one happened just a few minutes ago...we have these shelves in our laundry room and there's medicine/random stuff up there. I went in to change my clothes and noticed a bunch of weird paper in the washer. A box of cold medicine fell in and I hadn't noticed and so the paper got all over my clothes. Luckily no medicine or weird stains...but it was still a pain to clean up! P-day moss is the worst!!

Sister Heiner <33

This week was an interesting one. We had a few exchanges and some meetings and lots of kooky people.

We had an exchange with the Brunswick sisters and I got to be reunited with my favorite human, Sister Heiner. We worked in Brunswick and biked a ton and got frozen yogurt and caught up. It was so fun! I also had an exchange with Sister Stepherson and we got to stay and work in Folkston for the day. It was one of the craziest trade offs I've ever been on. SO WEIRD!

Sister Stepherson:))

So we were out trying some Less Actives in Folkston and we parked and walked looking for the right house. We found the one we were looking for and we walked up and there was a group of little girls outside. They immediately came up and started hugging us and hanging on us. We figured they were the LAs daughters or something since they seemed to know us. We started talking to them trying to figure out who they were but we couldn't understand a single word they were saying their southern accents were so strong. They started pulling on my bag and trying to get inside and take my hand sanitizer. We were feeling a little ambushed so we told them we had to go. The littlest one came up and tried to give me another hug but instead of hugging me she grabbed the bottom of my skirt and lifted it up above her head. I quickly grabbed it from her and pulled it back down. They thought this was the funniest thing ever so then they went over to Sister Stepherson and did the same thing. They kept lifting up our skirts so we tried to leave. We got maybe 20ft from the house when we heard them yelling at us. We turned around and they were running after us. They came up from behind and started lifting up our skirts again! We didn't know what to do since we were totally out numbered. We would hold our skirts down in the front and one of the other girls would lift it up from behind. It was total chaos and our car was still a ways away. We finally got away from them and ran all the way back to our car. It was insane haha

Bowling with the District last Monday

We were trying formers one day and we were able to meet with a lady named Lisa. We took some time  to get to know her and ask her questions and she opened up about some struggles she is having. She also told us about some misconceptions she had about the church. We were able to teach to her needs and help her feel the spirit. We read with her from the Boom of Mormon and she told us that is was exactly what she needed. We left her with a copy and she was excited to read it. If we had gone in with a set plan and just taught at her instead of listening to her concerns and going from there the lesson would have turned out very differently. Once people know we care about them they are better prepared to receive our message!!

HAPPY BDAY SIS HOFFMAN!!!

We also had a relief society activity this week all a out keeping Christ in Christmas and it was really good! Sister Hoffman and I sang for everyone and then we did different activities and ate dinner! It was really awesome and got me SUPER excited for Christmas! It's crazy it's already almost December. Time is flying

Things are going great here in Callahan! I love being a missionary!!

ps HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! I am so thankful for all of y'all 💖

Weekly Moss Moment-
Thursday Sister Hoffman and I got back from an exchange and went out to do some finding before the Relief Society activity. We were looking for some less active sisters so that we could invite them to the activity. We knocked on one door and the lady didn't live there anymore but we were able to talk with the new resident a bit and we asked if we could give her a card. I started looking through my bag trying to find a card and realized I had taken them out before the exchange and they were still in the car. Sister Hoffman didn't have any either so I awkwardly ran back to the car while she stood on the porch talking to this lady. We finally gave her a card and then left. DANG MOSS! Always keep pass along cards in your purse y'all haha

Far Far Away on Callahan's Plains

Hi everyone! So this week was a little crazy and different but lots of fun! We had our Branch Open House, exchanges, and zone conference so lots to report on this week!

Wednesday we were out finding trying formers and potentials and we met this guy named Jason! He'd met with the Elders once or twice back in 2011 but hadn't been contacted in years. We stopped by and he was so nice and came and sat and visited with us for a minute. He was super interested in the Book of Mormon and said he was willing to read it. He said 9 months ago he went through a lot and started putting his life back together and he felt like it was all preparing him to meet us and accept our message. It was awesome!

exchanges with the Hendricks STLs

Thursday we had exchanges with the Waycross sisters! I went with Sister Harris up to Waycross and it was lots of fun! Sister Harris was my MTC companion over a year ago so it was fun to be back together again! We went and helped pick up pecans for one of their investigators then we did some finding. A super sweet member took us out for dinner and then we had some lessons that night! It was a good exchange and Sister Harris is such an amazing example to me :)

The next morning we woke up bright and early so we could get to Jacksonville for Zone Conference! We have a lot of exciting things happening with our mission right now and we had some really good trainings from President Lee, Sister Lee, and the Assistants. We also were trained on the Light the World initiative that will be starting in a few weeks and go throughout the Christmas season! I love Christmas and I can't believe it's almost here! Time is flying.

On the way down to Zone Conference Sister Hoffman was driving our car and it was acting weird and wasn't working very well. As soon as she pulled into the parking lot at the church it stalled and we couldn't get it to turn on or move or anything. Luckily we made it to the meeting! It was a tender mercy! Once zone conference was over we tried starting the car and it was working again so we drove it a few miles down the road to get it looked at. They weren't going to finish the car before they closed so we had to stay the night in Jacksonville with the Hendricks STLs. We were supposed to do an exchange with them that day anyway so it worked out! It was fun to be all together and be back in the city! When we woke up the next day we were able to pick up our car and head back to Callahan! Sister Williams came with me and we finished our exchange up here. We taught Malekai and Maveryk and they are set to be baptized the end of November!! We also saw Jason again and had a really awesome lesson with him on recognizing the spirit.

We switched back and headed up to Hilliard for the open house! We had a dinner and people visited and then we watched a short video and gave a tour of the chapel. We had awesome support from the branch and we had a really good turn out! Jason came and he told us he had a good time! He told us he is going to give the Book of Mormon a chance and that he is very open. He promised to come to church and is just so prepared. It's really exciting!!

I 💜 JAX

Things are moving along here in Callahan and it's super exciting! I love being a missionary and serving with these amazing people!!

-Weekly Moss Moment-
So on Saturday after we switched back with the Hendricks sisters we were out trying some people before we had to go to the open house. About an hour after they left Callahan we realized that we had their phone. We started panicking thinking we were going to have to drive all the way back down to Jacksonville to give it to them but we didn't know how to get it to them or where they would be or anything. Luckily Sister Hoffman remembered the name of the lady feeding them dinner that night so we gave her a call and asked if she could have the sisters call us when they came for dinner. They called and the member offered to drive them up to get their phone. We had to leave for Hilliard so we hid the phone between our glass door and the front door. We are super tight on miles this month and it would have killed us to go all the way back to Jacksonville so we are happy it all worked out. MEMBERS ARE THE BEST

If You're the GOAT, I'm the GOAT

Autumn the baby goat <33

Happy Monday friends.
This week was great!! I got my new companion and her name is Sister Hoffman. She's from Colorado and has been out on her mission a little over a year. We have lots of fun together and I think we are going to have am awesome transfer!

Welcome to our crib(trailer)

Last Monday we went with the Elders and the Gillands to Okefenokee swamp. It's one of the largest swamps/wildlife reserves in the US. We walked all around the swamp and did a boat tour where we saw lots of gators. Flogorgia is so pretty and I love it here. I took a ton of pictures so y'all  can see what I mean

Okefenokee with the Hilliard fam

Wednesday we went down to Jacksonville and dropped off Sister Doxey and picked up Sister Hoffman. We headed back and got straight to work. A member in the branch has a little farm and one of their goats had babies this week so we got to go over and hold the baby goat!! It was so adorable. I also milked the goat and tried some fresh goat milk. Welcome to the country.

We had some awesome lessons over Facebook this week and it was pretty. Technology is so awesome!! We also had MLC in Jacksonville and some people from the missionary department came and trained us a bit, we also have another two day MLC at the end of the month where we will get more training. We are one of 12 missions in the world piloting new missionary stuff so they are going to be working with us a lot the next few months training us and seeing what we can do to be more effective. It's pretty exciting stuff.

Well that's about it for this week. I love being a missionary!
I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

Operation Search and Rescue

Happy Halloween!!! 🎃🎃

Happy Monday! Time is flying and we are already at the end of another transfer! We had our transfer call on Saturday and found out Sister Doxey is leaving :/ shes headed for Macclenney for her last transfer and I'm going to miss her tons. My new companion's name is Sister Hoffman and we will serve together as the Sister Training Leaders for the Kingsland Zone! President opened up 3 new sisters areas in Kingsland so we have more sisters to work with and I am so excited!!! It's going to be a fun transfer!

Companions that tandem together don't always stay together(transfers://) but it's still pretty fun

Last week we drove to Fernadina Beach to have a district p-day. A member in the ward there has a house right on the water and they let us come over and fish in their backyard! The weather is finally cooling down and it was a little overcast and perfect out. I'd never really fished before but I tried it out. I caught a crab for like 2 seconds but that's about it for me! We saw dolphins and a cute sea turtle and the Elders caught some baby sharks! It was lots of fun

Fishing with the District last week 🐟

We did a lot of finding this week and met some interesting people. We met a man named Gary and his grandson Kyle. They let us in and we shared a video with them about the Book of Mormon. As soon as the video was over Kyle showed us his phone and he had pulled up Mormon.org and was ordering a free copy. It was awesome haha! We told him we could just bring one next time if he wanted and so we are going to go back and see them this week! We are still working with Malaekai and Mavryk and they are so excited to be baptized! We taught them a few times this week and they are adorable and hilarious. We played a mini football game with them after a lesson and Sister Doxey scored 2 touchdowns wahoo! Haha!

Kingsland District

Friday night the branch went all out for their annual fall festival and it was so fun! We went early to help set up and to decorate the room we were in charge of. They had different games in each room and the kids would walk around and do different activities and get treats. They had the whole thing inside and it turned out great! The whole building was decorated which took a lot of work but the kids all loved it. We also had a chili cook off and just sat and visited with all the branch members. We had a lot of people come and even some investigators so that was exciting!!

Our investigator David has this outside his house and keeps it stocked with drinks and snacks. Southern hospitality.

I was able to give a talk this week in sacrament meeting about the importance of daily scripture study. I loved being able to study that topic more and it's something I've really seen the importance of as a missionary. There was a quote that I really liked that I wanted to share with y'all from President Monson

One morning it was so cold we actually turned the heat on....it was crazy. We bundled up and made hot chocolate it was a strange feeling haha

“Once obtained, a testimony needs to be kept vital and alive through continued obedience to the commandments of God and through daily prayer and scripture study. As Nephi emphasized, to gain eternal life we must 'press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end'”

I know the Book of Mormon is true because it changes my life every time I read it. I love being a missionary and being able to share this wonderful book with people everyday!!

I love y'all! Have a blessed week <33

Branch Fall Festival! The Gillands had the scariest costume for sure

More puppies! We met this little guy tracting and he followed us around the whole time then came back to the car and hopped right up as soon as I opened the door. It broke my heart a little bit to have to leave him behind </3
